Don Christie

Managing Director - Catalyst

Don Christie is a founder and Managing Director of Catalyst IT, the region’s largest open source company. Started in 1997, this group now employs 200 open source technologists across NZ and another 60 in our Australian and UK subsidiaries.

Over the years Catalyst has started or invested in 9 startups and brought exciting new open source technologies to New Zealand. The most recent being OpenStack – the open source cloud platform that is used in NZ’s only true public cloud facility, Catalyst Cloud Ltd.

Open Source technologies have been the driver of global innovation since the inception of the (open) Internet. Don and Catalyst have been at the heart of this movement, actively collaborating and contributing to the projects.

Don is also co-Chair of NZRise (www.nzrise.org.nz), and organisation he helped set up to represent the interests of New Zealand owned digital businesses. Previously he has been a Councillor of Internet NZ and President of the NZ Open Source Society.
